FAQs
What does the free trial include?
You can try GroupNews without restrictions absolutely free for as long as you like.
The only limitation of your group’s free trial is that you can publish 5 editions of your group’s news. Once your group has published 5 editions, you will need to subscribe to a paid plan in order to continue publishing new content for your group.
Do I need a credit card to sign up?
No, you do not need to provide a credit card to sign up and get started with GroupNews.
Once you've hit the publication limit of your group’s free trial, you will need to subscribe to your group’s plan at that time with a credit card to continue to use GroupNews.
How exactly does the plan pricing work?
Every GroupNews plan has base price which allows you to have up to ten members in your group. When your group grows larger, your account then gets billed an additional per-member price for every person beyond the first ten.
Use the pricing calculator above to see what each plan would cost based on the number of members in your group.
Do you offer a discount?
While the prices you see here reflect per-month costs, you can choose either monthly or yearly billing for your account. If you opt for yearly billing, you’ll save 20% off the monthly price. How cool is that?
What if I want to cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your GroupNews plan at any time without any hassle in your group’s settings.
Once you cancel your group’s subscription plan, your group will be reverted back to a free trial plan, and subject to the limitations of the trial. More details can be found in our cancellation policy.
Do you prorate charges for changes to the number of members in a group?
Absolutely. When the number of members in your group beyond the first ten changes, you’re charged prorated amounts for the time each person is a member based on your billing frequency.
For example, say your group has 20 members at the beginning of the month at a base price of $30/month + $3/month for each additional member. If you add another member halfway through the month, that change would trigger an additional per member charge of $3/month. For that month that you made the change, that additional member would be prorated, and you would be billed a total of $61.50, as follows:
- $30 base price for the first 10 members.
- $30 for members 11–20 at $3 per member.
- $1.50 prorated charge for 1 additional member for half a month.
As a group administrator, you can always see your estimated upcoming charges in your group's settings, including any applicable proration details.
Why does a Family plan max out at 150 members?
The Family plan is geared towards keeping up with the news from your family and friends—the people with whom you have meaningful relationships.
According to social scientists, any individual can maintain around 150 meanigful relationships at any given time. This is known as Dunbar's number, and is consdered to be the upper limit of people in a group for that group to stay cohesive.
If you need more than 150 in your group, consider a Team or Premium plan.
Do group invitations count towards my billed total?
No, not until a person you invite accepts your invitation. Once that happens, they will be added to your group as a member, and count towards the total number of members your group has.
